Lydia Brownfield & "Miller-Kelton" This Saturday At Victory's.
Come on down and hear Lydia Brownfield and her band at Victory's in German Village. Stick around for the charming power folk rock of the Southside's own Miller-Kelton. Lydia is on at 9:00, MK at 10:45.
German Village is known for its charm, unique architecture and parking lots that are actually right next to the bar so you don't need to park illegally and walk half a mile and spend every waking minute wondering if you'll be towed. So there's that -- oh, and the bar has pizza!
Miller-Kelton and Lydia's band have played together before in places like Hal & Al's, and it's always a great mix of musical styles. Miller-Kelton played COMFEST last year, and Lyd and I actually got to see them (they went on the same day Lyd had played) on a pretty rainy day rock one of the gazebo stages.
Victory's is just south of downtown (technically Brewery District??? not really sure where the line is drawn there) at 543 South High Street Columbus, OH 43215. Show starts at 9pm, with Lydia and the band taking the stage first. The food from Classic's (part of the building complex) is great, and the sound guy in there is among the best in the city!
Sleep in Saturday morning and come prepared for a late night with Lydia Brownfield, Joy Keller, Frank Lapinski, Jeff Dalyrmple and the fine folks of Miller-Kelton!

Burlesque & Brownfield June 21st!
Now, there are birthdays...and then there are BIRTHDAYS! Lydia's birthday this year is going to be HUGE. With a title like "Burlesque and Brownfield" it can't be all bad, right? Here's the deal..Sarah from Brothers Drake Meadery has gotten the (in)famous burlesque queen Viva Valezz of Velvet Hearts Burlesque (www.vivavalezz.com) and Lyd together for a pre-COMFEST skin-stravaganza!!
Scantily-clad and maybe DANGEROUS women will be performing feats of feminine fabulosity alongside Lydia's unique brand of Indie Noir music for a most amazing birthday spectacle. The show is slated for June 21st (Lyd's umm...23rd birthday I think?) and further details will come soon.
You may recall that Lyd played solo last year at COMFEST on the Solar Stage...but I have feeling that she will be extremely pleased to rock her birthday with Ms. Valezz at Brothers Drake Meadery. Who WOULDN'T love that?
Be SURE to check back here for updates, and at www.lydiabrownfieldmusic.com for show info and links! Burlesque And Brownfield? I am sooooo in.....

"Shut Up And Listen" For Feb. 16th!
The lineup for next week will feature three local songwriters that many of you likely already know if you live in Columbus. Veterans of the music scene here, you can catch them at a few open-mic nights in between gigs. Mary Miller you may even know from her stand up comedy acts in town!
Those playing are "Funky Fingers" Fred Haertel, Mary "Say Something Funny" Miller, and Ken Pardee..who I still think sounds a lot like Randy Newman. That's a good thing! You can hear small snippets of all of their music on Wednesday nights during Billy Zenn's open mic at The Shrunken Head in Victorian Village most weeks.
Stop by Brothers Drake Meadery and listen next week for "Shut Up And Listen" hosted by Lydia Brownfield and don't forget to find the current issue of Crave Magazine and tear out page 11! Bring it to the show for a BDM fluted glass...thenFILL IT...then empty it.:) Visit www.brothersdrake.com for more information on Brothers Drake.

SUAL Line Up For February Second!
The first "Shut Up And Listen" show for February is looking good. Heavy hitter Zack DuPont is stopping by for the show, and he comes with some serious street-cred. Hailing from Vermont, he has backed up bands like Grace Potter and The Nocturnals and has been compared vocally to the likes of Ray LaMontagne, the late great John Martyn, and early David Crosby.
Check out his site at www.zackdupontmusic.com
Next up is Steven Shanks. He's a Columbusite who plays with the band "Timid Blue." He has a very different style and will fit quite well into the night's musical offerings. Check out "When You replace Me" on the Timid Blue Reverbnation page at http://www.reverbnation.com/timidblue.
*As usual, Lyd is hogging up all of Frank's spotlight.*
Opening the show, as always, will be the lovely and talented..often surly..Lydia Brownfield! She will be accompanied by the likes of Joy Keller, Frank Lapinski and Jeff Dalyrimple for the evening.
*Soon to be wed Joy Kelller's voice is epic.*
The poster was made prior to notification that Nathan Scott Drury (you may know him from Victory's in the Brewery District of Columbus) had to take himself off the list. With no shortage of requests to play, Lyd has to choose this week who will fit well with the night's songwriter styles...look for an update soon!

Shut Up & Listen For January 19th
Awww yeah. It's on like Donkey Kong! Tomorrow night's show is packed and stacked...but it's gonna be a bit of a twist. "Again?" you say..and yes..again. Tomorrow night may be the only night this show ever covers..COVERS!
It's Wednesday night at 8pm, and Lyd and Joy are in the basement working out the subtleties of the really obscure songs they are doing. If it sounds tomorrow night like it sounds right now, bring a hankie..cuz it's so good you may just cry. Frank Lapinski and Mark dantzer don't even need to practice as they are just that good. Mr. Dalyrimple and Company (the band Verses) will also be in the house! OK, grab your mead glasses and hit the door by 7:45. We'll see you at Brothers Drake Meadery!

SXSW Artist Anna Zoe Coming To "Shut Up & Listen!"
The pleasant e-mail landed yesterday. Erie, PA born musician Anna Zoe (now living in NYC)will be on stage at the crazy-busy South By Southwest music festival in Texas in March of this year. She contacted Lyd to see if she could swing by either on the way TO, or coming back FROM the festival. It seems that she and Lyd have some similarities in their early music career paths, and that should make for a great series of interview question for the evening's "Shut Up And Listen" show at Brothers Drake Meadery.
Anna Zoe's website (www.annazoe.com) describes her as "...an independent singer/songwriter originally from Erie, PA whose music sounds like Tori Amos having dinner with Coldplay, and meeting Death Cab For Cutie for drinks. My first full-length album "Friction In Some Direction" was released on June 27, 2011, with plans to tour in early 2012.
I am a complete DIY artist, which means I don't have anyone else paying, booking, managing, uploading, organizing, promoting, marketing, or shipping for me. What you see is what you get and what you get is full of the greatest love and appreciation from me."
Be sure to grab one of the ads in CRAVE magazine for the show and redeem it for a new mead glass courtesy of Brothers Drake Meadery on your way to the show in March (date to be determined as of yet)! Looking forward to more New York-based musicians stopping by the show this year, and Anna Zoe should be an amazing addition to the growing list of songwriters from around the country stopping by to play.
